RDF ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF BRIEFS RWANDA SECURITY FORCE AHEAD OF DEPLOYMENT TO CABO DELGADO

Gako, 13 September 2025

Today, at the Rwanda Military Academy in Gako, Maj Gen V. Nyakarundi, the RDF Army Chief of Staff, together with Commissioner of Police Vincent B. Sano, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, briefed members of the Rwanda Security Force (Army and Police) who are set to deploy to Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado.

The joint task force will relieve their colleagues who have served in the area over the past year. The relieving contingent of the Rwanda Security Forces will fall under the command of Maj Gen Vincent Gatama.

During the briefing, the RDF Army Chief of Staff conveyed a message from the President of the Republic of Rwanda and Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force, H.E. Paul Kagame.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining the discipline and momentum that the Rwanda Security Force have demonstrated over the past four years. He also commended the achievements of previous contingents, stressing that such high standards must continue to be upheld.

The troops were reminded that commitment and discipline are essential to the success of operations aimed at supporting the Mozambican state authority through combat operations and security sector reform.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Police Vincent B. Sano urged the forces to foster teamwork at all times and avoid any misconduct that could damage Rwanda’s reputation.

This deployment reflects the strong bilateral relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Mozambique.
