MOZAMBICAN TROOPS GRADUATE IN AN ADVANCED INFANTRY COURSE
Mozambique, 23 May 2025
Today, the President of Mozambique and CinC of Mozambique Armed Forces (FADM), His Excellency Daniel Chapo presided over the pass-out ceremony of 525 Mozambican troops in advanced infantry course trained by Rwanda Defence Force instructors. The graduation ceremony took place at Nacala Training Center in Nampula Province after completing a rigorous six-month training program.
President Chapo conveyed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Rwanda and RDF for their support to Mozambique in sending their troops to support Mozambique in establishing peace, security and stability in Northern province of Cabo Delgado. He also commended the RDF’s significant contribution to Mozambique’s fight against terrorism.
“A course of this nature was last conducted in 2011 by the United States of America (USA) force in Mozambique. “It is a rare opportunity to have an allied country train a country’s forces: FADM and Mozambique greatly appreciate this effort .” President said
Rwanda Security Forces Commander Maj Gen Emmy Ruvusha commended Mozambican leadership for the good cooperation and support in the campaign against terrorism in Cabo Delgado. He also congratulated the trainees who completed the course for their effort. He reminded them that training never ends and that they must use the acquired skills to work towards maintaining security and stability of Mozambique.
The ceremony featured tactical demonstrations, with graduates showcasing their skills in simulated counter-terrorism scenarios and Special Operations Forces tactics, a testament to RDF’s effective training. The inclusion of six female operatives underscored the program’s alignment with Rwanda’s values of inclusivity in defense.
This graduation builds on the RDF’s ongoing support in Cabo Delgado since 2021, where Rwanda Security Force have significantly weakened Islamic State-linked insurgents. The RDF’s efforts, supported by regional and international partners, continue to strengthen bilateral ties and advance peace, positioning the graduates to protect communities and drive Mozambique’s stability forward.
Trainees mastered counter-terrorism operations, urban warfare, and precision strikes, alongside skills in close-quarters combat, covert reconnaissance, hostage rescue, and rapid-response tactics against asymmetric threats to ensure readiness for complex security challenges.
