Today, the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF) and the French Institute of Rwanda delivered pedagogical materials and equipment including books, IT and audio-visual equipment to the Rwanda Military Academy – Gako for developing French language skills of Rwandan peacekeepers.

The Deputy Commandant of Rwanda Military Academy, Col Franco Rutagengwa received the equipment that was delivered by Mr Johan-Hilel Hamel, Director of French Institute of Rwanda who was accompanied by Col Frédéric Gautier, in charge of the sub-Saharan African to the Directorate of Cooperation of Security and Defence and Col Nicolas Dufour, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of France in Rwanda.

In May 2022, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF), Her Excellency Louise Mushikiwabo launched a French teaching programme for Rwanda Defence Force troops that will be deployed for peacekeeping missions in French speaking countries.

Since then, OIF and the French Institute of Rwanda (IFR) developed a project to strengthen French language skills of Rwandan peacekeepers. This project includes the delivery of French language courses to a group of RDF military personnel to be deployed in MINUSCA in CAR; certifying the level in French language acquired by the learners; providing the Military Academy in Gako with documentary resources, IT and audio-visual equipment to facilitate the learning of French.
