RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS CONDUCT COMMUNITY WORK AND DONATE SCHOLASTIC MATERIALS TO PUPILS IN SOUTH SUDAN
Juba, 17 October 2025
Rwandan peacekeepers (17 Mechanized Infantry Battalion) under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) donated a variety of scholastic materials and supplied clean water to more than 900 pupils from Jebel Christian School in Ruri Payam, Juba, South Sudan.
The support includes exercise books, pens and pencils, among others.
The peacekeepers also conducted community work together with the school leadership and local leaders, focusing on planting fruit trees and different vegetables in the school and its surrounding area.
Speaking during the occasion, the school Head Teacher, Mr. Taban Seme, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Rwandan peacekeepers for their continued support and generosity, noting that the donation would greatly enhance the school’s learning environment.
On behalf of Rwandan peacekeepers, The Rwanbatt-3 Contingent Commander, Col Leodomir Uwizeyimana, acknowledged Jebel Christian Academy for the warm hospitality and partnership. He urged students to value education as the pillar of national development and praised teachers for their dedication, noting that “the youth are the strength of the nation.” He reaffirmed Rwandan peacekeepers’ commitment to continue supporting education as a foundation for peace and progress.
He also emphasized that, beyond community outreach, Rwandan peacekeepers remain dedicated to ensuring the protection and safety of civilians in South Sudan as part of their peacekeeping mandate.
