UNMISS FORCE COMMANDER VISITS RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS IN TORIT

South Sudan, 13 January 2025

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Force Commander, Lt Gen Mohan Subramanian, visited Rwanbatt-1 at the Torit Company operating base in Torit, South Sudan, situated 139 kilometres from Juba City.

He was welcomed by Sector South Commander, Brig Gen Dinesh Singh, alongside Rwanbatt-1 Contingent Commander, Lt Col Emmanuel Ntwali.

During the visit, the Force Commander engaged with female peacekeepers from Australia, India, The Gambia, Ghana, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Thailand.

Discussions focused on the pivotal role of female peacekeepers in addressing sexual and gender-based violence, as well as conflict-related sexual violence within South Sudanese communities.

The Force Commander urged all peacekeepers to remain committed to combating sexual violence as part of their mission responsibilities.
