University of Rwanda Celebrates 4,953 Graduates at Its 12th Graduation Ceremony at the College of Education, Rukara Campus
The University of Rwanda (UR) celebrates the graduation of 4,953 students from its seven colleges at a ceremony taking place at Rukara Campus in Kayonza District. Among them are a record 49 PhD graduates, marking an important achievement in the Universityâs efforts to strengthen advanced research and academic expertise.
The graduates come from different academic disciplines, including health sciences, education, agriculture, technology, business and social sciences. They include 1,086 Masterâs degree graduates and 3,480 Bachelorâs degree graduates.
The ceremony brings together graduates, their families, academic staff, government officials and other guests to celebrate years of hard work and academic achievement.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana congratulates the graduates and reminds them that earning a degree comes with a responsibility to use their knowledge and skills to improve people's lives.
âYour degree is an important achievement. But its true value will be demonstrated by what you do with the knowledge and skills you have acquired,â the Minister says.
He challenges graduates to think beyond finding employment and consider how they can create opportunities, address challenges facing their communities and contribute to Rwanda's development.
âI encourage you to look beyond the question, âWhere will I find a job?â Ask yourselves, âWhat value can I create? What challenge can I help solve? How can I contribute to Rwandaâs development?ââ
The Minister also encourages graduates to remain resilient in the face of challenges and continue learning throughout their careers.
âYour first job does not define your entire career. Your first setback does not determine your future. What matters is your determination to keep learning, adapt to change and turn challenges into opportunities.â

During the ceremony, the best-performing graduates from different academic disciplines across all seven colleges receive recognition for their outstanding academic achievements. Top performers at Bachelorâs, Masterâs and PhD levels receive awards, including scholarships, paid internships and special recognition for their academic excellence.
Holding the graduation at College of Education, Rukara Campus also reflects the University of Rwanda's commitment to serving communities across the country. By organising graduation ceremonies at different campuses, the University brings these important celebrations closer to the communities it serves.
