THE CHIEF OF CIVIL-MILITARY COOPERATION IN THE RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE URGES THE HEADS OF BASIC EDUCATION SCHOOLS TO PROMOTE RWANDA’S HISTORY AMONG THE YOUTH
Burera, 5 November 2025
The Chief of Civil–Military Cooperation in the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Colonel Désiré Migambi Mungamba, today addressed representatives of heads of schools from all sectors across the country.
The training was organized to equip education officers and heads of schools who will in turn train teachers on how to teach Rwanda’s history. The training is being held in the National Ubutore Development Center of Nkumba in Burera District. The training is under the theme “Teaching Rwanda’s History in Rwandan Schools.”
In his lecture titled “The Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) Liberation War and Campaign against the Genocide of the Tutsi in 1994: Sustaining Achievements and Resilience by Teachers (Education Sector)”; Col. Migambi called upon the participants to take an active role in teaching Rwanda’s history to the younger generation, emphasizing that the country was founded on the philosophy of Ubunyarwanda (the Rwandan identity), deeply rooted in values such as patriotism, unity, integrity, peace, prosperity, bravery, and dignity.
Col. Migambi explained that these same values guided the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) during the liberation struggle, in efforts to stop the Genocide against the Tutsi and restoration of national unity and resilience.
He highlighted that patriotism, unity, resilience, and the fight against injustice were key factors that enabled the RPA, largely composed of youth, to put an end to the genocide and rescue those who were being killed.
Col. Migambi urged them to strengthen efforts to teach Rwanda’s history, especially to young people.
He stressed that teachers carry a national responsibility to teach history without distortion.
