SRI LANKA DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE STUDENTS CONDUCT STUDY TOUR IN RWANDA
Kigali, 31 July 2025
A delegation of senior officers, comprising 18 students and faculty members from the Sri Lanka Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), led by Commodore(Brig Gen) Nalida Dissanayeke, today visited the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Headquarters in Kimihurura.
The delegation is in Rwanda for a study tour from 28 July to 08 August 2025
The delegation was received on behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff by Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, the Defence Spokesperson and Chief J4 Col Silver Munyaneza.
In his presentation, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga highlighted the Rwanda Defence Force’s remarkable transformation from a post-conflict force into a modern, professional military institution. He emphasized the RDF’s pivotal role in safeguarding national sovereignty, supporting socio-economic development, and contributing significantly to regional peace and security through active participation in international peacekeeping missions and collaborative defence initiatives.
Commodore, Nalida Dissanayake, the Head of Delegation, stated that the purpose of their tour was to gain insights into Rwanda’s socio-economic development and the structure and operations of the Rwanda Defence Force. “We are also grateful for the opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s history, particularly the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and to understand how the country has remarkably recovered from that tragic chapter. ”He noted.
The delegation also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to pay their respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. They later toured the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, where they gained deeper insights into the history of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The study tour will also include visits to the Rwandan Government institutions and the Ministry of Defence-affiliated agencies.
