Rwandans in South Sudan celebrate the 31st Anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation Day

The Rwandan Community in South Sudan, alongside UN peacekeepers, representatives from UNMISS HQs, local officials, and friends of Rwanda, gathered in Durupi, Juba-South Sudan to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation Day.
During the event, Brigadier General Louis Kanobayire, Rwanda’s Senior National Representative in South Sudan reflected on the significance of the day, “ This 31st Liberation Day, we gather not just to remember, but to reaffirm our enduring spirit, celebrate our extraordinary journey, and recommit to the vision of a prosperous, secure and united Rwanda” he said.
He further emphasized Rwanda's path of national recovery and development, “Today, Rwanda stands as a testament to what is possible when people unite with purpose” Brig. Gen. Kanobayire added.
UNMISS Force Commander Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, the event’s guest of honor, praised Rwanda’s transformation and its strong contribution to global peacekeeping” When we talk about peace and stability, Rwanda registered remarkable achievements. From being a country that once hosted peacekeepers to becoming one of the major contributors to UN peacekeeping missions over the past two decades, this is a truly remarkable transformation,” he remarked.
Mr William Ngabonziza, the Rwandan Community Representative in South Sudan, expressed deep appreciation for the then Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA), whose efforts brought liberation and paved the way for the nation's transformation journey.
Celebrations of Rwanda’s liberation Day was marked by the colourful military parade performance, martial arts demonstrations, and Rwanda cultural dance performance by Rwandan peacekeepers.
