RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS IN CAR PROVIDE FREE MEDICAL TREATMENT TO THE PEOPLE OF BAMBOUTI
CAR, 20 September 2024,
Today, the Rwandan Peacekeepers (RWABATT-1) serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) provided free medical treatment to the local population in Bambouti, an area located in the eastern part of CAR.
The medical services provided addressed various health issues such as malaria, malnutrition, sexually transmitted infections, intestinal parasites, gastroenteritis, dental caries, oral infections, eye diseases, and skin infections.
Ndiaye Goumba, the sub-prefect of Bambouti, expressed gratitude for the Rwandan peacekeepers' contribution to the current security situation and commended their positive collaboration with the local population, which led to the successful provision of free medical services.
Bambouti sub-prefecture situated in the Haut-Mbomou prefecture, had long been threatened by armed groups like the Union for Peace in Central African Republic (UPC) and Azande. In May 2024, the Rwandan peacekeepers, deployed in this area as part of MINUSCA, assumed the responsibility of protecting civilians, ensuring the area's security, combating armed groups, and facilitating freedom of movement to create a conducive environment.
