RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS IN CAR CONDUCT COMMUNITY WORK IN BANGUI
Bangui, 25 November 2025
Today, Rwandan Peacekeepers (Rwanbatt 1), serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), conducted a community work activity—Umuganda—in collaboration with local residents of the 1st Arrondissement in Bangui City. The exercise focused on clearing bushes along the roadside.
Following the activity, the Rwanbatt 1 Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Paul GASASIRA, explained that the initiative aimed to support and encourage the local population to work together as one community and to keep their surroundings clean as part of efforts to combat malaria. He further urged residents to sustain such activities in the future, noting that collective action is essential for achieving common goals and ensuring community well-being.
“Today, we share the spirit of Umuganda, a Rwandan tradition of unity and collective effort to build stronger and better communities. A clean environment promotes health, safety, dignity, and pride. By working together, we show that peace is also built through unity, collaboration, and mutual respect,” he said.
The Mayor of Bangui, Madam BONNA Leontine, expressed her appreciation to the Rwandan Peacekeepers for their commitment and support to the local population. She also thanked them for introducing this community work initiative, which she said strengthens unity among residents and contributes to the welfare of citizens.
