RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS IN BRIA PROVIDE FREE MEDICAL SERVICES TO PRISONERS
Rwandan peacekeepers from the Rwanda Level 2+ Hospital and the Rwanda Battle Group, serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), today conducted a medical outreach programme at Bria Prison, providing free medical services to more than 80 detainees.
The outreach was organized in commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day, to be observed tomorrow on 18 July 2026, and reflected MINUSCA's commitment in promoting the dignity, health, and well-being of persons.
The activity was attended by the Director of Bria Prison, Mahamai Adoum Salle, and the Deputy Contingent Commander of the Rwanda Level 2+ Hospital, Lt Col Dr Isaiah Nzayisenga.
The medical services provided included malaria treatment, internal medicine consultations, dental care, eye care, dermatological treatment, and other general medical services. Free medicines were also distributed to the inmates.
Speaking during the outreach, Lt Col Dr Isaiah Nzayisenga said that the Rwandan peacekeepers deployed a multidisciplinary team of medical specialists to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the prisoners. He noted that the initiative demonstrates MINUSCA's commitment to supporting communities by addressing health care challenges while also marking Nelson Mandela International Day.
The Director of Bria Prison, Mahamai Adoum Salle, expressed his appreciation for the continued support provided by MINUSCA and the Rwandan peacekeepers.
"Today's outreach, organized in connection with Nelson Mandela International Day, is particularly significant as it recognizes the dignity and rights of prisoners. As you know, our prison does not have medical facilities, so we are sincerely grateful to the Rwandan peacekeepers for their continued support and dedication to the health and well-being of our inmates," he said.
