RWANDAN PEACEKEEPERS IN BRIA CELEBRATE LIBERATION DAY

Today, Rwanda Peacekeepers (Battle Group VI and Rwanda level 2+ Hospital) under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), celebrated the 30th anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation. The event took place at Bria base camp, Sector East, Haute -Kotto Prefecture, CAR.
The Prefet of Haute–Kotto Prefecture who was the guest of honor, praised the progress achieved in Rwanda over the last 30 years after the `1994 Genocide against Tutsi and commended the government's efforts in conflict resolution, combating discrimination, and promoting equal opportunities. The Prefet also acknowledged its contribution to peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic and Security Bilateral Cooperation between the two countries.
The commanding officer of the Rwanda Battle Group VI, Lt Col Tharcisse MPFIZI, said that Liberation Day is celebrated every year to honor the heroism and dedication of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) in stopping the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 and freeing the country from the oppressive regime and its genocidal forces. This day symbolizes the unity of the Rwandan people and nation's path toward reconstruction."
The ceremony was attended by The local community leaders, Sector East Sector Commander, other MINUSCA officials, Non-Government Organizations and friendly peacekeepers in the Sector East among others.
