Rwandan Peacekeepers and Society for Family Health Conduct Community Outreach in Juba
Juba, 11 October 2025
Rwandan peacekeepers—comprising both Army and Police personnel under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)—in collaboration with the Rwandan diaspora and the Society for Family Health (SFH) in South Sudan, conducted a community outreach activity focused on malaria prevention at the Mangateen Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Juba.
As part of ongoing efforts to support internally displaced persons, the initiative brought together peacekeepers, partners, and local residents in a joint campaign aimed at reducing the risks and impact of malaria.
The outreach activities included clearing overgrown vegetation, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, raising awareness about malaria prevention methods, and distributing mosquito repellents to residents.
Speaking at the event, Colonel Leodomir Uwizeyimana, Commander of the Rwanbatt-3 Contingent and representative of the Rwandan peacekeepers in UNMISS, praised the strong partnership between peacekeepers and the local community. He urged residents to take proactive steps in maintaining a clean environment by removing bushes and stagnant water—key measures in the fight against malaria.
Simon Khan Lok, Chairman of the Mangateen IDP Camp, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, noting its importance in promoting community health and combatting malaria through both education and practical tools like mosquito repellents.
Malaria remains one of the most serious health challenges facing the Mangateen IDP camp, located on the outskirts of Juba. This outreach effort underscores the shared commitment of all partners to improving the well-being of the camp’s residents.
