RWANDAN COMMUNITY REPAIRS KAPURI BASIC SCHOOL IN JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN
Juba, 27 September 2025
Rwandan peacekeepers serving under UNMISS; both Army and Police; together with members of the Rwandan community (Diaspora) in South Sudan, have once again joined efforts to rehabilitate Kapuri Primary School after it was severely damaged by heavy rainfall.
One of the school blocks lost its roof during the rains, forcing students to crowd into the remaining classrooms. To ease the situation, the peacekeepers and their partners stepped in to repair the damaged block and restore normal learning conditions.
In addition to the renovation, they carried out community work (Umuganda) alongside local residents, school staff, and students. The activities included painting classrooms, cleaning the compound, planting trees, and establishing a kitchen garden. The school also received solar panels and a new 5,000-litre water tank to improve access to energy and clean water.
Speaking at the event, Headmistress Ms. Yunus Goldon expressed deep gratitude, noting that “no classroom is overcrowded again and students are now attending lessons in a conducive environment.”
On behalf of the peacekeepers and the Rwandan community in South Sudan, Mr. William Ngabonziza, Chairman of the Rwandan Community, highlighted the value of education in shaping the future and reaffirmed Rwanda’s continued commitment to supporting host communities.
The Chairperson of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), Mr. Joseph Tutu, also praised the contribution, saying: “I am very happy with the repair of the damaged roof, which had forced our children into overcrowded classrooms. The PTA will always remain grateful to the Rwandan community for their consistent support towards the education of our children.”
