RWANDA TO HOST MILITARY FIELD TRAINING ‘EXERCISE SHARED ACCORD 19’
Kigali, 12 August 2019
Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), the United States Military, African nations, the European Union with other International Organizations, will conduct a Field Training Exercise (FTX) codenamed Exercise Shared Accord 19, from 14 – 29 August 2019 at the RDF Combat Training Centre - Gabiro.
The exercise will be conducted along with related Command Post Exercise (CPX) at Rwanda Military Academy-Gako and a Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) at Rwanda Military Hospital in Kanombe.
This is the second time this exercise will be conducted in Rwanda after a successful Exercise Shared Accord 18 that took place at Rwanda Military Academy- Gako in August last year.
Shared Accord is a military exercise focusing on African partner capability and interoperability in support of a United Nations/African Union Peace Keeping Operations (PKO). The exercise seeks to enhance positive bilateral and regional relationships in austere environments among participating partners.
The exercise also helps build partnership among participants and is designed to improve their capability to respond to regional security threats. This exercise will include scenarios related to conducting peacekeeping operations during the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.
Exercise Shared Accord 19 will involve 1200 participants from Belgium, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Egypt, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, USA and Zambia.
The opening ceremony will take place on August 14, 2019 at the RDF Combat Training Centre – Gabiro.
