Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) donate scholastic materials to schools in Mocimboa da Praia, Mozambique
Cabo Delgado, 26 October 2023
Due to the impact of war that crippled the education system during the four year terrorist insurgency in Mocimboa Da Praia, almost all children had dropped out of school. Despite the return to normalcy and the rebuilding of social structures including the reopening of schools, the key underlying challenge is extreme poverty and the resultant lack of social basic needs by the population.
It’s in this regard that, on Wednesday 25 October 2023, Rwanda Security Forces in Mocimboa Da Praia organised a small gesture of support in the form of providing scholastic materials; exercise books and Pens to needy students.
The schools which were randomly selected to benefit from this support are UNIDADE, TETE, MANIRITHA, NAITOPE and CHIBANGA Primary and Secondary Schools of Mocimboa da Praia District. A total of 3,100 exercise books and 2,530 Pens were delivered to the above mentioned schools. Each Primary school child was given 02 exercise books and two Pens each while Secondary School students received 04 exercise books and 03 Pens each whereas the teachers were given Notebooks and Pens that will help them in their daily work.
Salmos BACAR the Head of Education in Mocimboa da Praia who spoke on behalf of the District, said that; in January 2023, the government of Mozambique officially re-opened Primary and Secondary Schools in Mocimboa da Praia district after years of closure due to the insecurity brought about by the insurgency in Cabo Delgado province. He further thanked Rwanda and Mozambique Security Force for successfully defeating the insurgents and restoring security and normalcy to the people of Cabo Delgado.
