RWANDA SECURITY FORCES IN MOZAMBIQUE COMMEMORATE THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI
Cabo Delgado, 13 April 2025
Rwanda Security Forces in Mozambique along with Mozambique Security organs and friends of Rwanda commemorated the 31st anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The commemoration event was held in Mocimboa Da Praia town.
The Administrator of Mocimboa da Praia District , Mr Sérgio Cipriano who spoke on behalf of the government of Mozambique said that what happened in Rwanda must be a lesson for the whole world and should not happen anywhere else again. He also thanked Rwanda Security Forces for their dedication in bringing stability and fighting terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
In his remarks, the Rwanda Security Forces Commander, Maj Gen Emmy K Ruvusha stated that the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi resulted from divisive ideology based on ethnicity; introduced by Belgian colonisers from the then existing social classes and ethnic groups propped by post-colonial governments.
He added that Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA-Inkotanyi) fought to liberate Rwandans who were the victims and stopped the genocide while the international community failed to intervene at a time when Rwandans were in desperate need of protection.
He also reminded the audience that Rwandans maintained peace, unity and stability to make sure that what happened in 1994 will never happen again.
The commemoration not only honours the memory of the lives lost in the Genocide against the Tutsi, but also reaffirms Rwanda’s commitment to preventing genocide and promoting peace through UN peacekeeping efforts and bilateral missions.
