Bangui, 29 July 2025
Rwandan peacekeepers (RWABATT13) serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), today received the Presidential Medal of Appreciation from His Excellency Prof. Faustin Archange TOUADERA, President of CAR and Commander-in-Chief of the Central African Republic Armed Forces.
The event took place at the presidential palace in Bangui City and was attended by H.E. Olivier KAYUMBA, Ambassador of Rwanda in CAR, Chief of Defence Staff of FACA and Government officials.
The award was given in recognition of their commitment, courage, and professionalism during their tour of duty while conducting peace support operations and protecting civilians in CAR.
The award of medals signifies recognition of the battalion’s discipline, professionalism, and exemplary conduct in executing UN mandated tasks. RWABATT-13 has been actively engaged in securing key installations, escorting humanitarian convoys, protecting civilians, and supporting stabilization operations in conflict-affected zones.
Addressing the troops, President Touadéra praised the Rwandan contingent for their unwavering dedication, tactical competence, and courage under challenging operational environments. He extended his gratitude to the Government of Rwanda and the RDF for their continued contribution to regional peacekeeping initiatives.
Lt Col Alphonse KIGENZA expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Central African Republic and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for his foresight and unwavering guidance, as well as support during the stay in Bangui city, which undoubtedly supported the force throughout the mission. He also credited the RWABATT13 troops for their resilience in ensuring security for the CAR President and his family.
Lt Col KIGENZA also thanked the members of the Government and the Central African Armed Forces, with whom his force enjoyed an excellent collaboration throughout the mission in the Central African Republic.
