RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE COMMISSIONS 531 NEW SPECIAL OPERATIONS PERSONNEL
Kirehe, 30 January 2025
The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) graduated 531 Special Operations Force personnel after they completed 11 months of specialized combat training course at the Nasho Basic Military Training Centre, Kirehe District. The graduating cohort includes 46 Officers and 485 other ranks.
The pass-out ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force Gen MK Mubarakh.
The RDF Chief Defence Staff congratulated the newly trained personnel for successfully completing a rigorous 11-month specialised combat training course, highlighting their resilience and determination throughout the program. He noted that the skills acquired would significantly enhance their operational effectiveness, urging them to prioritise discipline as a fundamental value within the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).
“You must uphold the morale and skills you showcased during the demonstration whenever you're called upon to defend our country's sovereignty. Be prepared to carry out any mission as Special Operations Force personnel.”
The CDS thanked instructors for their commitment in developing the trainees into skilled soldiers prepared for special operations.
At the ceremony, the top three performers were recognised for their outstanding achievements, with Captain Sam Muzayirwa being awarded the overall best performer. Lieutenant Moise Butati Gakwandi came in second, while Nahemia Gakunde Kwibuka secured third place.
During 11 months of Special Operations Training, the trainees were equipped with advanced tactical skills vital for special operations, including shooting both heavy and small arms, hand-to-hand combat, river and water crossing, military map reading, reconnaissance, combat engineering, heliborne and mountaineering operations, and advanced first aid.
These skills are aimed at preparing RDF forces to defend the territorial integrity and safeguard the national sovereignty of Rwanda.
