RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE CHIEF OF CIVIL MILITARY COOPERATION ADDRESSES YOUTH IN ISONGA NATIONAL SPORTS

The Rwanda Defence Force Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation (J9), Colonel Désiré Migambi Mungamba, yesterday addressed 477 young boys and girls aged 15 to 17 and below, participating in the Isonga National Sports Talent Week, running from 16 to 22 December 2025, the initiative is aimed at nurturing and identifying promising sports talent across the country.
The second edition of the national sports programme is being conducted in designated boarding schools in each district, with a national centre based at Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare in Huye District. It seeks to provide a structured and impactful platform for talent development through advanced training, competition, and national recognition.
Held under the theme “Youth Heritage in National Protection and Liberation,” the programme focuses on nationwide talent identification, standardised district-level training, and technical capacity building for local coaches and physical education teachers.
In his speech , Colonel Migambi Mugamba reminded the athletes of Rwanda’s history, particularly the liberation struggle that restored national dignity, unity, and sovereignty. He underscored the central role played by the youth in safeguarding the country’s hard-won achievements and protecting national sovereignty.
He further urged the young athletes to uphold Rwandan values in their sporting careers, including integrity, hard work, discipline, patriotism, and dignified representation of the country.
He emphasised that discipline should guide all their activities and encouraged them to serve as ambassadors of Rwanda whenever they compete at national and international levels.
