RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE AND UGANDA PEOPLES’ DEFENCE FORCES HOLD MEETING TO STRENGTHEN CROSS-BORDER SECURITY

The Rwanda Defence Force (2nd and 5th Infantry Divisions) and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (2nd Infantry Division) convened a meeting in Uganda, Mbarara District aimed at strengthening cross-border cooperation and curbing cross-border crimes between Rwanda and Uganda.
The RDF delegation was led by Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, Army Chief of Staff who was welcomed by Maj Gen James Birungi, the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security of the UPDF.
The meeting discussed ways to combat cross-border illegal activities and developed strategies to address the challenges facing border communities.
The UPDF Land Forces Commander, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, who was the Chief Guest, commended the efforts of both countries to maintain security along their shared borders. He noted that various meetings were scheduled between the Chiefs of Defence Staff/Force (CDS/CDF) to strengthen the existing historical relationship between the two countries and enhance security. “under the guidance and commitment of the two Heads of State, H.E. Paul Kagame and H.E. Yoweri Museveni, we conducted various meetings to address security challenges, particularly along the border. undoubtedly this initiative will foster harmony between the nations and ensure social transformation and prosperity,"said Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga.
Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, speaking on behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, extended his gratitude for the UPDF’s efforts in tackling illegal cross-border activities and pledged that the RDF would always coordinate with them to deter cross-border crimes and violent extremism in the region.
The delegation also made a courtesy call to the Chairpersons of Kabare and Ntungamo Districts.
The last meeting between the two sides was held in May this year in Nyagatare District, Eastern Province.
