Relief as CAR diaspora donates medical insurance to 2000 vulnerable people in Huye
Huye, 01 October 2018
Central African Republic (CAR) diaspora have donated health care packages worth Rwf6 million to 2000 members of vulnerable families in Huye District
Speaking at the handover of the insurance cards to beneficiaries, Major Kabutura, said the donation seeks to support community programmes, especially those counted as vulnerable families.
“As Rwandans serving in MINUSCA in CAR, we believe that it is our responsibility to take care of the most vulnerable back home and that is why we are pleased that 2000 vulnerable people now will have access to health care,” he said. He also noted that the CAR diaspora can only do well when the population back home is healthy and vacating to their normal and national developing daily responsibilities.
CAR Rwandan diaspora is comprised of Rwanda Defence Force and Rwanda National Police personnel serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSCA), together with other Rwandans expatriates and business individuals living in CAR.
Sebutege Ange, Huye district Mayor, applauded CAR diaspora for the support, emphasising that health insurance is very key for every citizen.
“The culture of lifting up one another is among our Rwandan key values and the foundation of good leadership,” he said, adding that being supported should be an encouragement to the beneficiaries to improve their lives.
Currently, RDF maintains one Infantry Battalion, a Mechanized Battle Group and a Level Two Hospital under MINUSCA. Additionally, Rwandan troops are also charged with providing security to key state installations and for high-ranking government officials including the President of CAR.
Rwanda, one of the world’s largest contributors of peacekeepers, first deployed peacekeepers in CAR in 2014.
