RDF trains South Sudan Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on COVID-19
Juba, 21 January 2021
Rwandan peacekeepers of Rwanda battalion 3- Regional Protection Force ( Rwanbatt3-RPF) serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in capital city, Juba, have today conducted training of trainees (ToT) on COVID-19 and infection prevention and control strategies in IDP camp 3 (IDP-3) in the fight against the pandemic.
The trainees were camp community leaders and Community Watch Group, a group that is formed to deal with security matters within the camp.
The group of 20 people were trained by medical team of Rwanbatt 3 Level I clinic on COVID-19 signs and symptoms, infection prevention measures to include regular hand washing, wearing face masks, and maintaining appropriate social distance between persons.
Capt Dr Phoebe Mwiseneza, said they chose to conduct that training in the IDP camp being the most vulnerable community to COVID-19 due to the big number of people it accommodates.
The camp chairman, Majoroth Duoth Biol, lauded the team for their support and assured that the knowledge and skills acquired will be of value in conducting further training at a larger scale in the fight against the pandemic.
IDP-3 is the home of more than 22,000 people who were forcibly displaced from their homes by the civil war.
