RDF MILITARY POLICE TRAINING PROGRAMME CONCLUDES AT GAKO
Bugesera, 8 August 2025
A total of 163 officers and other ranks from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Military Police have today successfully completed a six-week intensive training programme, jointly conducted by the RDF and the Qatar Armed Forces at the Rwanda Military Academy in Gako.
The pass-out ceremony was presided over by the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Gen MK Mubarakh. The event was also attended by His Excellency Mr Ali Bin Hamad, Chargé d’Affaires of the State of Qatar to Rwanda, RDF generals, and a delegation from the Qatar Armed Forces.
The course focused on four key areas: VIP protection, counter-terrorism, anti-riot operations, and fighting in built-up areas (FIBUA). Its primary aim was to equip RDF personnel with advanced tactical skills to effectively manage emerging security threats, protect high-profile individuals, respond to terrorism, and control public disorder.
In his address, Gen Mubarakh expressed appreciation to the Qatar Armed Forces for their unwavering support and longstanding partnership. He acknowledged the valuable contribution of the highly skilled Qatari trainers who, on multiple occasions, have enhanced the RDF Military Police’s capabilities with critical knowledge and tactical proficiency in responding to specific threats.
Gen Mubarakh further emphasised the RDF’s continued commitment to strengthening internal capabilities and fostering external partnerships in pursuit of both national and regional security.
“Readiness in today’s security environment requires not only robust institutions but also well-trained personnel capable of responding decisively to a wide range of threats. It is within this context that we deeply value our bilateral cooperation with the Qatar Armed Forces, as we continue to promote mutual benefits and a shared commitment to addressing evolving security threats,” said the CDS.
Maj Nader Alhajri, Chief of Training, praised the RDF for its dedication to deepening the partnership between Qatar and Rwanda through joint initiatives such as this training programme.
“This course was conducted as part of the cooperation between our two countries. The skills acquired will enable RDF Military Police to perform their duties with increased efficiency and professionalism,” he said.
This joint initiative underscores the strong bilateral ties between Qatar and Rwanda and reflects their shared commitment to enhancing security capabilities.
