RDF HOSTS DEFENCE ATTACHÉS FOR A SECURITY BRIEFING ON INTERNAL AND REGIONAL SECURITY
The Ministry of Defence and the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) today hosted Defence Attachés (DAs) and associates accredited to Rwanda for a security briefing at Defence Headquarters in Kimihurura.
Participants were updated on Rwanda’s internal and external security situation, as well as the RDF’s contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions and bilateral military operations.
In his welcoming remarks, Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, Director General of International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence, emphasised that the regular security briefing serves as a unique and valuable platform for frank and constructive dialogue on regional and global security dynamics.
“This platform is especially important in the increasingly volatile international security environment we are all navigating. Across the globe, conflicts are escalating, strategic alliances are being tested, and the rules-based international order is under unprecedented pressure. In such a climate, genuine and constructive partnerships are a strategic imperative,” he said.
Following a series of presentations and an interactive session, the Dean of the Defence Attachés, Brigadier General Mohamed Mirghani Yousif Mohamed, Defence Attaché of the Republic of Sudan to Rwanda, expressed appreciation for the briefing, describing it as informative. “We appreciate the time taken to provide a comprehensive overview of the current security situation, both internally and externally,” he said, adding that Rwanda is a peaceful country.
The event was attended by 36 Defence Attachés and Associates representing various countries and international organisations, including Angola, Brazil, Botswana, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Morocco, Namibia, Poland, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Tanzania, Türkiye, Uganda, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Zimbabwe, as well as the European Union (EU) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
