The three-day Proximity Commanders’ Meeting between the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), whose units operate along the common border, concluded 29, August 2026 in Mbarara City, Uganda. The meeting was officially closed by the UPDF Deputy Commander of Land Forces, Maj Gen Felix Busizori.
In his closing remarks, Maj Gen Busizori commended the cooperation between the RDF 2nd and 5th Infantry Divisions and the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division, particularly in managing and resolving emerging security challenges along the common border between the two countries.
He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two forces, noting that such cooperation contributes to peace and security for the people of both nations. He also underscored the need for sustained joint efforts to combat cross-border illegal activities and encouraged both forces to regularly share relevant information.
Maj Gen Busizori concluded by stressing that the partnership demonstrates the commitment of the leadership of both armies, as well as the guidance of their respective Commanders-in-Chief, to addressing shared security challenges.
During the meeting, both sides adopted various strategies aimed at strengthening the bond and cohesion between the two forces, as well as fostering stronger relations with local communities living on both sides of the border.
