Mbarara, 22 March 2025
The three-day proximity Commanders' meeting, held in Mbarara City, Uganda, between Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF), deployed along the border concluded today with remarks from Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, the UPDF Deputy Land Force Commander.
In his closing remarks, Maj Gen Takirwa thanked participants for their efforts and contributions throughout the meeting.
He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in addressing cross-border illegal activities, urging both forces to share information regularly. He underlined that this partnership reflects the commitment of both armies' leadership and the guidance of their respective Commanders-In-Chief in addressing shared challenges.
"From the colonial era, our people have crossed borders for various reasons, and the sense of brotherhood has existed for a long time on both sides. We cannot deny them the ability to visit one another and engage in business. What we must do is regulate their movements, ensuring their security while implementing our Commanders-In-Chief's vision.
Both sides benefit from security, as people are able to conduct business when they know that their safety is assured." He said
During the meeting, various strategies were outlined to strengthen the bond and cohesion between the forces and local communities on both sides of the borders.
