The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) 5th Infantry Division and the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) 202 Infantry Brigade held a Proximity Commanders’ Security Meeting today in Ngara District, Tanzania. The meeting concluded with both sides acknowledging the progress made since their previous engagement, which had focused on curbing illegal activities and enhancing the security of cross-border communities between Rwanda and Tanzania.
Both parties emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration and joint initiatives to address emerging threats. They also recognized the positive outcomes achieved following the previous meeting in tackling security challenges affecting border communities.
As part of the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the leadership of Ngara District, where they were received by Col Mathias Julius Kahabi, the Ngara District Commissioner.
He commended the Proximity Commanders’ Meeting, noting that it has enabled both countries to effectively address shared border issues and strengthen cooperation among cross-border communities.
In his closing remarks, Brig Gen Gabriel Elias Kwiligwa, Commander of the TPDF 202 Infantry Brigade, expressed gratitude to all participants for their dedication and contributions throughout the meeting. He stressed the need for continued collaboration in combating cross-border illegal activities and encouraged regular information sharing between the two forces.
