RDF 5 Division secures victory in friendly football match against TPDF 202 Brigade

The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) 5 Division football team emerged victorious with a 2:0 score in a friendly match against the Tanzania Peopleâs Defence Force (TPDF) 202 Brigade football team. The game, held at the Ngoma District Stadium in Rwandaâs Eastern Province, marked the third encounter between the two teams in such a setting.
Speaking on behalf of the RDF leadership, Brig Gen Pascal Muhizi, Commander of the 5 Division, commended the strong and growing relationship between Rwanda and Tanzania. He emphasized that such initiatives align with the guidance of the two nationsâ Heads of State. âThis friendly football game not only provides entertainment but also strengthens our relationship and cooperation in various areas,â Brig Gen Muhizi remarked. âIt fosters collaboration, particularly in joint operations to ensure security along our shared border.â
Representing the TPDF delegation, Col William Joshua Lovukenya highlighted the tournamentâs role in deepening comradeship and mutual understanding between the two countries. He urged players to demonstrate sportsmanship and solidarity, reinforcing the shared responsibility between the sister militaries.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where both teams received medals. The RDF 5 Division football team was crowned champions and awarded the tournament trophy, celebrating yet another step towards enhanced bilateral cooperation and camaraderie.
This game follows two previous encounters between the teams, held in November 2023 and April 2024, where the Tanzanians claimed victory.
