PRESS RELEASE: MPs to conduct nationwide field visits to assess efforts to increase agricultural productivity
The Chamber of Deputies has organised the field visits for Members of Parliament in all districts. These visits aim to gather information and oversee efforts to increase the productivity of food crops and cash crops, specifically, coffee and tea.
The visits will take place from May 28 to June 4, 2026, in all districts, and from June 6 to 7, 2026, in all sectors of the City of Kigali.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Gertrude Kazarwa, stated: "We continue to prioritise our oversight responsibilities regarding government activities and staying close to the citizens. These visits will enable us to gather firsthand information from the local communities and stakeholders to ensure that programs aimed at increasing agricultural productivity yield expected results and improve the welfare of Rwandans."
During their visits, the Parliamentarians will tour agricultural activities. They will engage in discussions with local government authorities, farming cooperatives, development partners, and residents. The primary focus will exchange on ongoing challenges in the agricultural sector, including the low utilisation of agricultural inputs, climate change issues, inadequate agricultural infrastructure, and the need to connect farmers to markets.
They will also participate in the community work (Umuganda) scheduled for the end of May 2026. Members of Parliament will also receive citizens’ concerns while assessing how the issues raised during previous visits have been resolved.
