Post-Conflict Peacebuilding Course concludes at RPA
Musanze, 7 May 2021
The Senior Leadership for Post-Conflict Peacebuilding and Reconstruction Course concluded today at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) in Musanze District. The course attended by Twenty-five senior military and police officers from South Sudan (Maj Gen – Lt Gen), started on 3 May 2021, and was organized by RPA in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC).
On behalf of the South Sudanese Generals that attended the course, Maj Gen Peter Mabior Riiny Lual said that unity, accountability and thinking big sum up what they have learnt in five days in Rwanda. “We have seen with our eyes the miracle of thinking big. What it can do to a country that was devastated by war to a flame of hope. We ensure that we are ready to put South Sudan interests above anything. We have learnt how the Rwanda Defence Force contributes to the socio-economic development of Rwanda and work for the people, and we take home the slogan of “one people, one nation’,” said Maj Gen Lual.
The South Sudanese Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Angelina Jany Teny noted that this was a very useful encounter for her delegation, emphasizing that the generals have learnt their role in building peace and creating stability. “Personally, while being here in Rwanda, I have had discussion with the Minister of Defence on possibilities of continuing these kinds of training and support to the implementation of our peace agreement and helping in the transformation of our organized forces because we have seen how the army here and other forces have become self-sufficient ” said Hon. Jany Teny.
