Labour Day 2026: Rwanda marks International Labour Day under the theme “Partnering for Skills, Powering Job Creation, and Fostering Local Economic Resilience.”
On Thursday, May 1st 2026, Hon. Minister Christine Nkulikiyinka hosted the International Labour Day 2026 celebration at the University of Rwanda, bringing together workers, employers, development partners, and other stakeholders to honour the contribution of all Rwandans who work, innovate, and drive the country’s socio-economic transformation across all sectors.
Held under the theme “Partnering for Skills, Powering Job Creation, and Fostering Local Economic Resilience,” the celebration highlighted the central role of workers in national development and underscored the importance of collaboration in strengthening skills development, expanding employment opportunities, and building a resilient economy amid evolving global economic challenges. Discussions emphasized the need for stronger partnerships among Government institutions, the private sector, academic institutions, and development partners to support sustainable job creation and economic growth.
In her remarks, Hon. Minister Christine NKULIKIYINKA expressed appreciation to workers across the country for their dedication and contribution to Rwanda’s socio-economic transformation. “To the millions of Rwandan workers, whether in agriculture, industry, services, or entrepreneurship, today is yours,” Minister NKULIKIYINKA said. “Your effort, dedication, and resilience continue to serve as the foundation of our nation’s progress and transformation.”
The celebration brought together representatives from Government institutions, workers’ organizations, employers, private sector representatives, development partners, and other stakeholders, reaffirming a shared commitment to promoting decent and productive employment, strengthening workforce skills and partnerships, and ensuring inclusive economic growth that translates into expanded opportunities, improved livelihoods, and greater economic resilience for all Rwandans.
