Government hosts UN Field Careers Briefing
Kigali, 8 May 2019
The Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Public Service and Labour and Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) in partnership with the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ), host an outreach briefing on UN Field Careers from 8 to 10 May, to raise public awareness of opportunities to work in a UN peacekeeping setting.
This is in line with the National Strategy for Transformation (NST 1) target of job creation, with the objective of informing the Rwandan Labour force on opportunities to work with the UN especially in UN field mission.
This important briefing is conducted by UN Staff and is organized in 3 sessions including a session for active and retired military and police personnel, a session for students, university staff in charge of career guidance and a session for public servants with relevant academic and professional qualification required by UN recruitment system. Participants will get to know about the UN system, UN recruitment system (inspira) and practical tips on how to prepare an application or an interview. Attending participants will thereafter share acquired knowledge with their peers.
Floresha Berisha from the UN Human Resources Office says that the purpose of this outreach event is to raise awareness about job opportunity and working with United Nations Secretariat including peacekeeping operations. “Rwanda is ranked third in troop contributing countries both military and police. In recognition to that, we believe that by raising awareness of job opportunities among the nationals of Rwanda will give them an opportunity also to apply for jobs by informing them about the requirements and recruitment process,” said Berisha.
Stakeholders to this outreach event include the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Rwanda National Police, Rwanda Correctional Service and the University of Rwanda.
