Gen. KABAREBE leads military chiefs meeting with American war scholars
The visiting delegation of seventeen US Air War College students and professors yesterday held discussions with several Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) senior officers.
The talks held at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Kimihurura were attended by, among others, RDF Chief of General Staff, Gen. James Kabarebe and the Air Force Chief of Staff, Lt Gen. Charles Muhire.
According to Col. Charles Karamba, the Director of Research and Development in RDF, the discussions aimed at giving the American scholars first hand information on the country’s progress.
"They want to get first hand information regarding the rapid development Rwanda has been registering since the 1994 Genocide," Karamba told journalists shortly after the meeting.
He observed that their visit was in line with their country’s military cooperation with different armies around the world. Rwanda and the US have partnership in the military field.
"This military partnership has enabled us to train some of our senior staff in military colleges in the US," Karamba said.
Led by Col. James Smith, the American delegation arrived in Rwanda on Thursday for a four-day visit and is scheduled to meet with other senior RDF officials.
The visitors also paid a courtesy call to President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro yesterday.
They were also expected to meet the President’s Special Envoy to the Great Lakes, Dr Richard Sezibera, and Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC) officials.
During those discussions, they will be briefed on regional security.
