EAC military games underway in Nairobi
Nairobi, 13 August 2019
A Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) contingent is participating in the ongoing East Africa Community (EAC) Military Games and Cultural Event 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. The games which started this Tuesday bring together military teams from Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya (host) and will compete in football, basketball, netball, volleyball, and cross-country.
The EAC Military Games and Cultural Event is an annual event aimed at promoting the esprit de corps among EAC member countries. This year's event will run from 11 to 26 August 2019 under the theme “One people, one Destiny”.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Amb. Raychelle Omamo said, “This event affirms the spirit of cooperation and friendship that has been established between the Defence Forces of the East African Community and present the occasion for all participants to further the cause of deeper EAC integration”.

In such past events, RDF has collected trophies and medals in many disciplines and they wowed to repeat the same prowess this year.
Present during the occasion were the RDF Army Chief of Staff Lt Gen Jean Jacques Mupenzi, the Representative of EAC Secretariat Hon. Christophe Bazivamo and other military and civilian dignatories from EAC member countries.
