EAC DEFENCE EXPERTS WORKING GROUP CONVENES IN KIGALI
Kigali, 13 February 2025
Defence Experts from East African Community (EAC) partner states convened in Kigali, Rwanda, from 13 to 14 February 2025 to develop a roadmap for establishing an online repository for documents used in conferences and exercises across EAC member states.
In his opening remarks, Col Maurice Otiya Maina, the meeting chairperson, expressed his gratitude to all participants for their attendance. He emphasized the significance of this initiative, highlighting its role in enhancing collaboration among partner states.
“As we come together, our goal is to create a detailed roadmap that will enable the smooth sharing, access, and management of key documents produced during the various defence activities within the EAC. This initiative is a crucial step toward improving communication and ensuring that the valuable information generated in our conferences is easily accessible to all stakeholders” Col. Maurice Otiya stated.
He further noted that the online platform would address inefficiencies, reduce costs, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
Lt Col Joseph Mithamo Kimani, representing the EAC Secretary-General, expressed confidence in the success of the meeting. He commended the participants, including military personnel, police, security services, and civilians, for their commitment to developing the online repository.
The meeting brought together delegates from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania.
