DEFENCE SPOKESPERSON JOINS EMPLOYEES FROM NATIONAL BANK OF RWANDA FOR THE 32nd COMMEMORATION OF THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI
Today, the Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Ronald RWIVANGA, joined employees from National Bank of Rwanda(BNR) in a commemoration event held at their office headquarters in Kiyovu in memory of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
In his remarks, Brig Gen RWIVANGA highlighted how the Genocide against the Tutsi was carefully planned over a long period, with its ideology gradually instilled in the population by bad leadership engineered and propagated by colonialists. He noted that young people were indoctrinated with divisionism and hatred, which ultimately led them to engage in heinous acts of killing innocent people.
The Defence Spokesperson went on to explain how the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA-Inkotanyi) came to the rescue of the country, with many of them being young people who took the lead in fighting against bad leadership, ultimately stopping the Genocide and restoring good governance
He also told participants that although the truth about what happened is well known and evident, there are still some individuals especially abroad who continue to hold genocidal ideology and persist in denying that Genocide against the Tutsi occurred.
He further urged participants to stand against those who seek to destabilize Rwanda and revive genocidal acts, reminding them that this requires understanding our history and fully grasping how the Genocide against the Tutsi was carried out and stopped, so that each of us can play part in ensuring that genocide never happens again.
He further called on Rwandans to adopt four key approaches in dealing with deniers: diplomatic, informational including the effective use of social media as well as the military, and economic approaches in order to build a resilient nation capable of overcoming emerging challenges.
