DEFENCE SPOKESPERSON HIGHLIGHTS ROLES FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST GENOCIDE IDEOLOGY TO THE EMPLOYEES OF RRA AND OAG
Today, the Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Ronald RWIVANGA, joined employees from Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and the Office of Auditor General (OAG) in the commemoration event held at Kimihurura in the memory of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
He delivered a lecture titled "Genocide ideology in the region and everyone's role in the fight against it".
In his remarks, Brig Gen RWIVANGA emphasized that, 32 years after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, genocide ideology remains present in the region, driven in part by perpetrators who continue to be supported by countries that host them.
The Defence Spokesperson noted that in today’s interconnected world, where social media has become a battleground, Rwandans must play a collective role in countering genocide denial of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi using social media for the benefit of truth, by sharing truth through testimonies of genocide survivors, factual stories in order to expose and condemn false narratives from those who deny or trivialize the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
“Every responsible Rwandan, especially the educated, has a duty to fight against those who deny the Genocide against the Tutsi. We also have a responsibility to educate the youth, because a large number of young people today were not yet born when the genocide occurred. Therefore, there are those who seek to mislead them.
Through writing on social media, educating others, supporting good policies that unite Rwandans, understanding our history, and correcting those who distort it, all these are contributions we can make to safeguard our country and serve as ambassadors of truth. Commemorating the Genocide against the Tutsi is not only Rwanda’s responsibility, it is a responsibility of humanity.” He said
