DEFENCE SPOKESPERSON ADDRESSES YOUNG LEADERS FROM THE AFRICA YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM

Kigali, 20 July 2025

On behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, the Defence Spokesperson today addressed more than 150 young leaders representing various academic institutions, including students from 35 universities and university deans, gathered in Kigali for the Young Leaders’ Breakfast Network Gathering.

The conference was organised by the Africa Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) in partnership with Cornerstone Development Africa, under the theme “Leading with Values: A Heroic Compass to Leadership Effectiveness and Positive Impact.” The conference served as a vital platform to inspire youth towards leadership anchored in integrity, patriotism and service.

Delivering the keynote address, Brig Gen Rwivanga highlighted Rwanda’s remarkable journey of transformation and the values that have guided its progress. “Leadership is not about position or authority, it is about the courage to stand firm for what is right and to serve with humility,” he said.

He underscored the Rwanda Defence Force’s continued commitment to value-driven leadership through its roles in national service, including disaster response, peacekeeping missions, and post-genocide recovery. He noted that true heroes are those who serve with discipline, unity, and respect for humanity.

Brig Gen Rwivanga called on the youth to lead not with ego, but with values that will build a stronger Rwanda and a better Africa.
