CHIEF OF CIVIL-MILITARY COOPERATION JOINS UNIVERSITY OF LAY ADVENTISTS OF KIGALI IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI
Hon. Senator Penine Uwimbabazi, together with the Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation, Col Désiré Migambi Mungamba, and local leaders, today joined more than 1,500 students, lecturers, and administrative staff of the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK), Kigali Campus to honour victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

In her keynote remarks, Senator Uwimbabazi commended UNILAK leadership for organizing the commemoration event and emphasized that Kwibuka serves as a platform for preserving historical truth, strengthening national unity, and promoting collective responsibility against genocide ideology and revisionism. She noted that Rwanda’s transformation is rooted in reconciliation and resilience, urging young people to protect the country’s achievements and contribute positively to national progress.
Addressing participants, Col Migambi provided a historical perspective on the roots of divisionism and discriminatory governance that characterized the colonial era and the First and Second Republics, eventually culminating in the Genocide against the Tutsi. He highlighted the liberation role of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) in stopping the genocide and restoring national security and stability.
Col Migambi further called upon the youth to play a proactive role in countering misinformation, hate speech, and the distortion of Rwanda’s history, particularly on digital and social media platforms. He urged them to uphold the values of patriotism, critical thinking, and social cohesion, while rejecting divisionism, disloyalty, and hatred, in order to safeguard Rwanda’s future.

He assured the participants that the RDF will always remain committed to serving Rwanda and its people in ensuring national security and prosperity.
