AFRICAN MILITARY CHIEF INSTRUCTORS COMMIT TO HARMONISE MILITARY TRAINING AND EDUCATION SYSTEMS
Kigali, 24 July 2025
The four-day African Command and Staff Colleges Chief Instructors' Workshop was officially closed in Kigali today by the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Gen MK Mubarakh. The workshop was held under the theme “The Future of African Military Training and Education: Bridging the Digital Divide.”
In his closing remarks, Gen MK Mubarakh emphasized that the discussions had underscored the critical importance of participants’ collective mission to modernize and harmonize military training and education systems.
He also urged participants to carry the insights and commitments from this workshop back to their respective colleges and countries. “Let the strategies discussed here find their way into curricula, classrooms, and field exercises. Let the networks formed here grow into lasting partnerships.” He said, adding that the future of African military training and education is in their hands.
The Commandant of the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College, Brig Gen Andrew Nyamvumba, said that the workshop has provided a unique opportunity to reflect, deliberate, and align on how best to enhance the quality, relevance, and harmonisation of military education across respective institutions.
Brig Gen David Chesire, Chief Instructor at the Joint Command and Staff College in Karen, Kenya, highlighted that the discussions during the workshop focused on strengthening collaboration among Command and Staff Colleges, particularly through student and directing staff exchanges. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation in addressing emerging security threats and fostering a shared training culture that enhances the capacity of students to respond effectively to security challenges.
Col Masheke Mutemwa, Chief Instructor of the Air Wing at the Zambia Defence Services Command and Staff College, underscored the fruitful outcome gained through the workshop as it provided valuable time for participants to engage and interact on various issues affecting the African continent.
