The Belgium–Rwanda Joint Military Commission meets in Kigali
The Belgium–Rwanda Joint Military Commission met this afternoon at the RDF Headquarters.
The Belgium Military team is in Rwanda to hold discussions with their counterparts on the existing and future partnership activities between their armed forces.
The Joint Military Commission will also review the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Rwanda and come up with proposals for consideration by higher authorities.
The four man delegation from Belgium is led by Col Motmans the Head of Military Cooperation. Other members of the Belgian delegation include Col Keppens the Head of Planning of the Military Partnership in Africa; Col Murangwa the Head of bilateral relations Africa Desk; and Major Goris the Head of Bilateral relations in the area of instruction.
Present also at the meeting was Lt Col Michaux the Belgian Defence Attaché in Kigali.
The Rwandan team is headed by Col Michael Nkurunziza the Deputy J3. The meeting is expected to end on Wednesday 20 January 2010.
The Joint Military Commission is meeting under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Defence between the two countries.
Rwanda and Belgium signed a Memorndum of Understanding on Cooperation in Defence on 24 August 2004.
