The Chief of Defence Staff [CDS] of the Rwanda Defence Force [RDF], Lt Gen Charles Kayonga arrived in the United Republic of Tanzania yesterday where he delivered a lecture of opportunity entitled “Emerging Asymmetrical Threats: The Case of the UN Mapping Report on the DRC” to the Commandant, Staff and Students of the Command and Staff College Monduli, Arusha.
The activity is line with cooperation in Defence among the EAC Partner States’ Armed Forces and its aim is to further enhance the existing cooperation through training and defence diplomacy. The CDS was at the College on the invitation of the Chief of Defence Forces of the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces [TPDF], Gen D.A Mwamunyange.
The RDF Chief of Defence Staff was received at Kilimanjaro International Airport by the College Commandant Brigadier Ezekiel Kyungo and the area Brigade Commander, Brigadier Gitenga as well as the Defence Liaison Officers [DLO] for Rwanda at the EAC Secretariat, Brig Gen Norbert Kalimba.
There are forty [40] Senior Officers in the current Course intake 25/10 at Monduli. The student officers come from all the five EAC Partner States’ Armed Forces as well as from the Armed Forces of the Southern African Development Community [SADC] Member States. The RDF currently has one officer at the Monduli.
Lt Gen Kayonga is also scheduled to attend the Extra-Ordinary meeting of the EAC Partner States’ Armed Forces Defence Chiefs scheduled for 22–23 October 2010 in Zanzibar.
